UN Study on best practice to protect Street Children
Description: Last year on 24th March 2011, the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopted the first UN Resolution for 17 years which specifically addressed children in street situations. Sponsored by over 60 States, with strong NGO support, the Resolution was unanimously
adopted and marks a significant advance in framing guidelines to protect and promote the rights of street connected children. The Resolution invited the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to conduct a study on ‘challenges,
lessons learned and best practices .... to protect and promote the rights of children working and/or living on the street.....' with an invitation to present the study to the Human Rights Council in March 2012. The OHCHR accepted this invitation and initiated
a global study, and CSC research expert Dr. Sarah Thomas de Benitez and CSC Advocacy Director Louise Meincke were asked to act as consultants. Organisations and individuals who work with street children were invited to submit examples of good
