An Educative-Theological Dialogue for a Culture of Peace

The Ecumenical School of the Science of Religion of the National University of Costa Rica, Oásis-Brazil and Ecumenical Services of Formation in Central America is holding the inaugural Latin-American Seminar-workshop:

"An Educative-Theological Dialogue for a Culture of Peace" in Costa Rica between 13 - 17 October 2008.

The purpose of this event is to unchain a process of discussion in theological and pedagogical formation for educators, educational professionals, government and non-government institutions, schools and churches in Latin America that work with children and adolescents in a situation of vulnerability.

Through the participation of specialists, together with groups from institutions and individuals, the seminar-workshop program will:

  • promote the deconstruction of speeches, religious and theological practices and consider what they provoke, justify and legitimize with regard to the violence against children and adolescents;
  • think about the educative practices, their presuppositions and implications regarding the development of children and to study the contribution of Paul Freire in the construction of pedagogical practices that criticize and look towards liberators for a culture of the peace.

In this first stage of preparation for this seminar the organisers are asking for expressions of interest in participating. If you are willing to participate, please answer the questions in the application form (click here to download application form [Word]) and email to one of the following addresses:

mgarcez@una.ac.cr / adelia.lorenti@oasisbr.org / sefcacostarricense@gmail.com

Please note that completion and return of the questionnaire is NOT registration.

Following receipt of applications, the organisers will contact you with more detailed information about the registration process.

The organisers are also looking for sponsors, so if you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact the email addresses quoted above.

YWAM Costa Rica: Children at Risk School
January 9 - April 3, 2009

This school is for those who want to work with or on behalf of at-risk children around the world.

CRS is a nine month study track (3 month lecture phase, 6 month field assignment) teaching specific skills needed for working with orphans, the disabled, refugees and street children amongst others.

The goal of the school is to multiply leaders who will champion the cause of children through social, political, judicial and spiritual intervention.

Students experience God's heart for justice, defending the cause of the fatherless, rescuing the poor, the weak and the oppressed.

During this 12-week lecture phase course content will be taught by ministry and social service professionals experienced in helping at-risk children.
Through lectures, discussions, small group interactions, community life, assignments and research, you will learn in creative ways, and begin applying what you've learned.

FIELD ASSIGNMENT

An integral part of the CRS is the six-month field assignment, during which students work with ministries, government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGO's) and other YWAM programs that serve needy children.

This field assignment gives students opportunities to test principles and skills learned in the classroom. Through continued research, case studies of individual children and planning an implementing a project, the students further develop their skills for serving the needy.
